Minnesota MYAS Rec State Championships Draw Hundreds of Teams
The 2026 MYAS Grade State Rec Basketball Championships tipped off March 21-22 across five venues in the Twin Cities metro area, bringing together hundreds of in-house and rec teams from across Minnesota.
The tournament — which prohibits travel teams to keep the competition focused on recreational programs — featured boys and girls divisions spanning grades 2/3 through 11/12. Host sites included Coon Rapids High School, Maple Grove Middle School, Prior Lake High School, Spring Lake Park High School, and Wayzata High School.
Now in its 36th year, the MYAS Grade State Championships remain one of the largest youth basketball events in the Midwest. The rec-only format gives community-based programs a stage to compete at a state level without facing year-round travel teams — an approach that keeps the playing field level and the focus on development.
For program directors running in-house leagues, events like the MYAS Rec State Championships are exactly the kind of season-ending experience that keeps families coming back year after year. The tournament format, the state championship atmosphere, and the travel to a new gym all create memories that go beyond wins and losses.
