AAU Spring Circuits Tip Off Across the Country This Weekend
The AAU spring circuit is officially in full swing, with tournaments tipping off this weekend in 14 states across the country. From the Pacific Northwest to Florida, thousands of youth basketball teams are hitting the hardwood in what coaches call the most important stretch of the offseason.
For many programs, these spring events serve dual purposes: evaluating new rosters after tryouts and competing for qualification spots at July's AAU National Championships. Programs that perform well in April and May earn priority seeding and invitations to the most prestigious summer showcases.
The West Coast sees heavy action this weekend with events in Washington, Oregon, and California. The Pacific Northwest AAU Spring Classic in Portland draws over 80 teams across six age divisions, while the NorCal Invitational in Sacramento features some of the strongest programs from Northern California and Nevada.
In the Midwest, the Illinois AAU Spring Shootout and the Indiana Hoops Classic kick off Saturday morning with games running through Sunday evening. Both events have become staples on the spring circuit and consistently attract top-level competition.
For youth basketball coaches managing their spring schedules, April is about finding the right balance between development and competition. The best programs use early spring tournaments to test new lineups and build chemistry, saving their most competitive rosters for May qualifiers and June showcases.
